Are You Afraid of Using a High ISO?

I have been mentoring photographers for almost a decade, and a very common photographic fear is using a high ISO.

And when I say fear, I mean photographers freak out about grain!

“I can’t shoot a higher ISO, the image will be grainy!!”

“Won’t my images have more noise if I photograph at a higher ISO?”

Well, yes.

Maybe.

But sometimes no.

Watch the video, and you’ll understand why I prefer using a higher ISO.

  • good explanation for the new shooters. I’m always happy to shoot in the 3200-12800 ISO range with newer cameras. Even with my old d3 6400 was acceptable to me. Grain is rarely seen unless viewed at 100% anyways.
