On Sunday, April 26th the March of Dimes will be having their annual Walk for Babies. I feel privileged to have been invited to document the event. I will be volunteering my services for this wonderful cause in honor of my Mom, who lost a baby to stillbirth before I was born.
From their website: “When you walk, you give hope to the families of babies born too soon or sick. The money you raise supports programs in your community that help moms have healthy, full-term pregnancies. And it funds research to find answers to the serious problems that threaten our babies. We’ve been walking since 1970 and have raised an incredible $1.8 billion to benefit all babies.”
I am also doing this in honor of Valentia and Elizabeth; two, sweet 5 week old babies that passed away last fall to SIDS.
Valentia is the first born daughter to Lisa and John, I documented their wedding in 2006. She was born healthy and happy and did not have any risk factors.
Elizabeth is the first born to Jessica and John, I graduated high school with Jessica. She was also born healthy and happy, with no risk factors.
To say that their short lives left an imprint on everyone around them would be an understatement. I am certain that unless you have experienced this type of loss, you cannot comprehend the absolute devastation. We pray for peace and healing for these families every day.
My good friend Tammy also lost her daughter Faith to stillbirth in 2001. She has been participating in the walk for the past three years. If you would like to make a donation to the Walk for Babies, please do so through Tammy by clicking here. Thank you for your support.
