Carolyn

It is with a heavy heart that I am posting about the passing of my sweet mother-in-law, Carolyn. This photograph was taken a little over a year ago, shortly after she received the diagnosis of ovarian cancer.

This photograph was taken in Dallas on July 3rd, when we celebrated her 71st birthday party with her in the hospital.

She passed away on Wednesday, July 21st at her home surrounded by family. Carolyn is in a much better place, one without pain, sickness, and tears. Craig and I are flying to Dallas tomorrow for her memorial service on Wednesday. It’s very difficult to articulate what Carolyn meant to me, but one thing is easy to share: she raised the most wonderful, caring, giving, kind man and I am extremely privileged to call him my husband.

Amanda and Jonathan held their ceremony and reception at Greystone Fields in Gibsonia and it was an absolutely spectacular day for a wedding!

Amanda was such a stunning bride.

And if you know Jonathan, then you know that he is so much fun to be around, I had such a great time hanging out with him.

My assistant Michelle captured this photograph of Amanda and her father headed outside for the ceremony.

The weather could not have been more perfect. And check this out: the officiant conducted the ceremony with his iPad! So cool!

Her eyes are captivating.

There are several photographs of Amanda and Jonathan like this… they have so much fun together! (Although I’m pretty sure in this photo they were laughing at me, but whatever).

Such great light.

I could not get over the blue sky and white clouds, such a dream!

Just missed the sunset, but managed to capture the deep blue sky.

Focus Group SLR Workshop

Did you buy an SLR camera but are disappointed with the pictures? Are you intimidated by the jargon used in your camera’s manual? You are not alone! One of the most popular courses I teach is an SLR workshop for serious hobbyists and those considering photography as a career. Learn how to use your digital SLR camera in either a classroom setting or in smaller, more intimate versions of the same workshop. Skill level is beginner to intermediate. Topics include: exposure control, ISO, shutter speed, aperture, flash techniques, composition, and use of light. This workshop is a mix of discussion and hands-on exercises.

There are three variations of this course based on how you learn best:

1. Photography (Digital SLR) Workshop: offered at CCBC – 20 students, 6 hours, $110
This is a large classroom setting. Groups are created based on camera manufacturer to allow students to help each other through the learning process.

2. Focus Group SLR Workshop – 6 students, 6 hours, lunch included, $220
Held at my home, this small group setting allows for more specialized attention given to each student based on their needs and equipment.

3. 1on1 Private Consultation – 1 student, 4 hours, $480
Also held in my home, this private consultation can be the quickest way to a complete understanding of your camera.

Bridal Session

I LOVE this photograph that I recently captured at a private consultation. I offer many avenues for learning photography (please visit my workshop page), but in this case, an aspiring photographer hired me for a hands-on post bridal photography session. Her friend was recently married, so she asked her to get dressed again. We spent a few hours shooting, where I taught my approach to lighting, posing and working with the client, and then we worked together to post process the photographs. It was a blast!!!

I often drive by fields like this and think to myself… if I only had a bride. Therefore you can imagine my excitement when my wish finally came true! I will be sharing more from this session soon.
