It would be impossible for me to describe the emotion that I witnessed today with Jason, Kelly and their families.  They entered the hospital with a terminal diagnosis for their son and the anxiety and emotion leading up to his delivery was difficult to process.  But I can tell you this, in no uncertain terms, I witnessed a miracle when I heard Bennett cry as he was born. He was able to breath on his own. A MIRACLE. This is Kelly getting her first good look at her new baby.

To capture these first, precious moments of Bennett’s life for Jason and Kelly is an absolute honor and I cannot thank them enough for allowing me to share in this very special, very private moment.

I do not use the term miracle lightly; this sweet, little boy is the product of God’s hands.

And when I say I witnessed a miracle, I mean that Bennett’s birth has profoundly impacted my life.

It was amazing to watch him wiggle and hear him making newborn sounds. He even yawned, which I though was just the best thing in the world. Poor little guy was so tired from all of the activity.

They transported Bennett to Children’s Hospital for for further tests, please keep him in your prayers. And congratulations to Jason and Kelly on their first newborn son! Praise God!

Susan - My nephew had epilepsy as a young child and his parents were told he would have learning disabilities and would most likely be dependent on his parents for the rest of his life. He graduated from Penn State in Chemical Engineering. We just had a party for him. He graduated from Duquesne Law School. He passed the bar exam and is now a paton attorney with a Pittsburgh firm. Carol - Kelli and Jason- I was born with fluid on three parts of my brain. That was 66 years ago. I had no learning disabilities and earned a Master’s degree in education. Dr. Jack Wilberger at
Allegheny General Hospital told me that 98% of people with fluid on their brain have no symptoms and can live a normal and productive life. I think your baby is a miracle and pray that he will be one of those in the 98% catergory.

Sherry - I read your story and it sounded so familiar. I was 19 weeks pregnant when I had a level 2 ultrasound at Allegheny General hospital. Just like with you, our tech left the room and shortly after the doctor came in the room. She told us that our baby had spina bifida. We were told by the doctor that she may be paralyzed or mentally impaired due to hydrocephalus. The doctor even went as far as to suggest we terminate the pregnancy because of the difficulties we would have to endure caring for her. For us that was never an option and we put our trust in God. Isabella was born on Valentines Day 2008. She is a blessing. She is intelligent, can crawl and is starting to walk with assistance. So never lose faith because anything is possible with God. I hope things continue to go well. He is beautiful. You will be in our prayers.

My prayers are with you, and so is God. My grandaughter recentaly had a baby boy, named Sean three months ago and was diagnoised as “Dandy Walker”, which sounds like what you are now going through. He was born at the John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and was given the best of care, and as of now is doing fine. Like you, there were prayers for him all over the United States, and involved so many people praying for him , and still praying. He is also a “Meriacle”, a gift from God , and we look forward for his future days that he will be a healthy boy.
